  1998 Annual Report: International Relation


Indonesian Capital Market development can not be separated from international development such as economic, social and political affairs. In 1998 Bapepam maintained international relationships with bilateral, regional, and multilateral institutions.

As a member of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), Bapepam sent delegates to participate in the IOSCO Enforcement Directors Meeting in Mumbai, India to discuss the establishment of rules and law enforcement with respect to the capital market and the role of the capital market to help overcome the Asian capital market crisis. Bapepam also participated in the annual Emerging Market Committee (EMC IOSCO) meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and IOSCO APRC meeting in Hong Kong.

In 1998 Bapepam also participated in a number of other meetings and conferences, such as APEC Core Group on Securitization meeting in Vancouver, Canada; Securities Industry Research Center of Pacific (SIRCA) Conference in Sydney, Australia; Securities Market Regulation seminar in Tokyo, Japan; Internship on International Institute for Securities Market Development in the US SEC, Washington, USA; the ASEAN Financial Ministers meeting and seminar in Jakarta, the 17th ASEAN Coordinating Committee Meeting on Services Secretariat in Jakarta and continued in Yogyakarta, and ADB Institute Asean Round Workshop in Singapore.

To promote the Indonesian Capital Market, Bapepam has also received official visits by foreign country delegates, such as an investor delegation from Taiwan, the Deputy Director General of Research of The Office of the State Council RRC, The British Chancellor of The Exchanquer, Egyptian reporters, and delegates of the World Bank.

As an extension of relationship particularly in human resources development between Bapepam and Australian Securities Commission, Bapepam actively participated in ASIC Summer School, of which the year’s topic was law enforcement and investor protection guarantees for developing countries.

Bapepam also participated in the meeting with related institutions in discussing the schedule of its Specific Committments WTO in Jakarta, especially dealing with the Indonesian Capital Market Committment in WTO forum
